One PhD and one short time Researcher in France (ANR support) will be necessary to realize the project. Undergraduate students (licence and master level) will also be considered to run specific parts of the project.


Professor Smith holds appointments in the Faculty of Science at the University Of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT, and in the Departments of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Guelph ( He is highly recognized for his theoretical and computational research in both macroscopic thermodynamics and in its molecular-level counterpart of statistical mechanics. His laboratory is known for its development of several new computational algorithms in the latter field.

One PhD, two master students, two post-doc fellows and several undergraduate Research Assistants are requested in Canada (NSERC support).


Gas Liquids Engineering is a Canadian engineering company that has been managing and carrying out gas injection projects for almost 15 years. Many of these involve the injection of acid gas, a mixture of carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide, which is a by-product of the processing of raw natural gas. This is called acid gas injection (AGI) and is a direct analogue of CCS. Furthermore, GLE has been a consultant on some of the largest carbon dioxide enhanced oil recovery (EOR) schemes in the world. Again many of the elements of EOR are directly applicable to CCS. Finally, GLE has been involved in preliminary work on CCS projects as consultants, because of its expertise in acid gas injection and enhanced oil recovery.
